The World Ski Awards held their inaugural Gala Ceremony in Kitzbühel yesterday, with Val Thorens coming out top overall to win the title of ‘World’s Best Ski Resort’.  The World Ski Awards is part of the same organisation as the World Travel Awards which has been running for 20 years, although this is the first year that awards have been dedicated to the ski industry.  The votes were cast by tourism industry professionals, senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media professionals as well as the public (those who were aware of the awards of course)

Other categories, in addition to resort, were Ski Hotel, Boutique Hotel and Chalet, and covered 20 countries from South Korea to Switzerland, and Andorra to the USA.

The full list of winners and more information about the awards can be found on the World Ski Awards website.

It would be interesting to see the criteria used to come up with the titles, as I’m sure you’ll all have you own opinion as to which is the best resort and why.
